Bobby Fischer

I read that Fischer once said about Capablanca : " he had the totally undeserved reputation of being the greatest living endgame player " ... what do you think of that ? I mean bobby said it so it must be taken into consideration .. yet , many still believe Capablanca is indeed the greatest endgame player !
I don't know too much about Capablanca's endgame, but his playing style is totally not my cup of tea. Bobby Fischer's style of play is more to my taste.... I don't care for the endgame; I wanna win in the opening.
Magnus Carlsen is better in endgame or should I say the best at it.
Capablanca wrote a great endgame book at the right time with fundamental concepts.

Maybe his reputation comes from there.
Guess there are "engame virtuosos" books referring to Smyslov, Karpov and Carlsen (three different books).
Capablanca was a positional genius, endgames included :P
Capablanca was known as a great endgame tactician. He saw petite combinations in endgames all the time. The other endgame greats like Bobby, Karpov, and Magnus are known more for strategic endgame play than tactical endgame play. Karpov and Carlsen were like boa constrictors. They just squeezed the life out of your position.
I’d say Smyslov is an endgame expert. He’s the most forgotten previous top player
During their match, Alekhine won mainly in the endgame. Although Alekhine was known for everything except for the endgame, he defeated Capablanca in his own specialty.

Before Capablanca, there was Pillsbury. During his time, there was the rook endgame specialists Rubinstein. Afterwards, there were many who studied and surpassed him. But, yes, during the couple of decades in the early 20th century, Capablanca was the best in all types of endgames.
