World Chess Championship 2023: Reactions, Statistics, and Impressions

Congratulations GM Ding Liren, making history as China’s 1st World Chess Champion! A monumental achievement, I’m sure his family, friends and local community are very proud of him.

For me I disagree because it was quite interesting in the end results.
The WCC was a roller-coaster ride of emotions, showing that chess, even at the elite level, is very much a human game despite the influence of computers. In terms of errors, Ding's nervousness was matched by Nepo's impetuosity, but in any case I am sure this WCC will be remembered for its excitement for many years to come, and will have attracted many more fans to classical chess. Congratulations to both players on a hard-fought match.
@henry1328 @carbon-based I felt this world championship was below par for the level of chess. I understand that there is a lot of pressure but they are among the best in the world and the way they played was just completely atrocious. Now it's clear why Magnus refused to play because he knew that if he had he would've faced a nervous player who can't handle the pressure and made blunders that were clearly not worthy of a world championship
Below par?
You mean compared to stockfish?
I thought they both made incredible calculations. Nepo was a bit impulsive at times, but that's his style. It's part of what makes him great. It's both his strength, and at times his weakness. He is not going to change. And Ding was Ding: slow and methodical, and at times indecisive, but his deep calculations got him out of a few precarious positions, and eventually won him the match.
It was a great war.

Ding, btw, is 0-1 with nine draws lifetime against Carlsen in classical, which is pretty good. i think only kramnik has a winning record against Carlsen. Compare that to Nakamura, for example, who has only beaten carlsen once in classical chess (1-14, not counting blitz). Ding went on a 100 game unbeaten streak a few years ago. He is one of the highest rated chess players of all time. He beat Magnus in rapid a few years back too. I am sure Magnus doesn't underestimate him.
