That was many months ago. Alireza wasn't as dominant as he had been recently for many of the early titled tournaments but then started beasting and winning multiple in a row. Alireza has crushed Magnus in their recent bullet games. Penguin never had a performance in the titled tournaments like he had in this last one. The recent performances of Alireza and Andrew Tang rival some of Magnus' best in these tournaments. It is possible that Andrew and Alireza have closed the gap a lot. Magnus is no longer the favorite to win these tournaments. That's a true statement.

At this point, and for a while longer Carlsen will be favorite in anything VS anyone except hyper bullet of 15 seconds or 8 seconds (per game), since he, like many other top players, has no interest in developing those specific skills such as pre-moving entire sequences, guessing, getting optimized computer and internet performance, mouse skills etc. But his 30 seconds is already scary, if they go to 45 seconds then Magnus beats Tang 5-0 and then relaxes. It’s not even close.
Carlsen is a very special player. One GM told me he isn’t sure who would win, kaspy at his best or Magnus. Kaspy had the resources of his team and his own memory to continue main lines and to contest the most principled lines, But Magnus is a very different unique player.
