a peep look in players' state of Mind

what's your very first state of your mind when play someone regardless of his rating?
* i'll beat him
* i won't let you beat me
* i'll trick him
*i won't let you trick me.
* i'll surprise you.
options are open....
I will lull him/her into false sense of security.
No, more like, I will play bishop to e6 here as the piece will own this uncontested diagonal, meanwhile my opponent hasn't moved half of their pieces and I've already begun solidifying my hold on the center. Things like this.
survive the opening and try not to blunder this time
I try to relax with that Tal quote: "Later, I began to succeed in decisive games. Perhaps because I realized a very simple truth: not only was I worried, but also my opponent."
Without seeing opponents rating, the only thought that comes to mind is I will try following Tal principle: complex the position and leave only one right path and make opponent fall for it but it's risky and only someone like him could do so successfully that too for long time in career, so I better leave it and just focus on my game to play good enough.
