Tips regarding analysis of game

Hey guys, i was just wondering if you have some tips on how i should go forward in analysing my games. I have read that this is one of the best way to improve at chess. I usually just look at the main error and try to find something better. then i go to the opening and see where we deviated from theory. then a quick runthrough with the computer looking for tactical errors.

the game below:(if it shows)
seems like i could have made more out of the pressure against the king, with the pawn marching up to h5, but it seemed at the time so easly to defend.
mistake trading my bishop in move 17 for the horse? giving him the bishop against knight in an quite open position. I wanted to try get a good knight vs a bad bishop by planting it on c5.
21.b4, i thought i would win the bishop by Re1 after trading queens. error:P

The most logical way of analysis is backwards: start at the end of the game. So white won, black lost. Now peel back one move and look if black had a better move. No, then peel back one more move.
So ultimately you find the culprit. In this case 36...d4 weakens his pawn, he should have advanced a free pawn of himself: 36...h5.

Your whole idea of 16 Bb5 and 17 Bxc6 was flawed. You remove your attacking bishop from the game, you trade it for a mere knight and that opens the b-file towards your king. Of course you could have made more from your attack: 16 hxg6 opening the h-file with threats against his king. Why else did you go through 11 h4 and 12 h5? Certainly not aiming for a good knight at c5 versus a bad bishop at e6.

tpr, thanks a lot for your tips and inputs. it helps a lot
Yes analyzing is good! Finding the error and then seeing what you could have done better is really good!

15. Qxd4 would have won a pawn.

16. hxg6 would have been a great move to open the h file. If Black plays hxg6 then Qh6 is mating. If fxg6 then Qh6 is still a good move.

17. Bxc6 gives up the light squared bishop before you played hxg6 which means you no longer have that bishop to attack Blacks kingside.

21. Nd3 would have protected b2 better.

Great endgame!
#4 15 Qxd5 does not win a pawn as Be2 hangs.
15. Qxd5 Qxd5 16. Rxd5 and the knight protects the bishop.

White actually played the best move 15. Qd2 but 15. Qxd5 is possible.
