Pawn capture = good or bad?????

Why is Stockfish saying taking the pawn on move 4. exd4 a good move instead of Nbd7?
Nbd7 is completely playable. I would personally play probably something like 4... Nc6 or 4... g6, nbd7 is a bit passive but it doesn't matter too much. Also 4.. Qe7 followed by 5... g6 is interesting option. exd4 is typical engine crap, he thinks that when he exchanges some pawns he will stay fine.
I mostly agree with @IAmMateCheckMate

@Ducati09 For your question why: Maybe because it opens up the position a little bit and also may allow Ne5 later, which would not be possible if the pawn is still there and stays there if the white d pawn advances to d5. In case of f4 black Nc5. Either way it attacks the bishop. So I would maybe play Nbd7 too, but it is quite interesting that the black knight has now central squares it can jump too. This could be one of many reasons for the engine exchanging the pawns. It isn't necessary tho.
change the settings of the analysis board to show multiply lines instead of just one. It might even show that Nbd7 was it's second choice.
