Game Analysis Request - King's Pawn Game: Damiano Defense

Decided to learn Chess during these trying times. I bought a 'Chess for Dummies' and everything.
Please, I have some questions with our latest game:

Start:

Why would it suggest Ne6 when it'll likely be taken by inaccurate move f6? Possibly, Ne6 actually represents the response to Black Nc6?? No?

Why would the pawn d6 be the recommended move at this point of the game:

Let's stop there with the questions as I realize now, 'I don't know what I don't know.'

Please, be open-minded in your commentary---beginners looking to improve.

Cheers.
3 Nxe5 cannot safely be recaptured due to 3... fe 4 Qh5+ Ke7 (4... g6 5 Qxe5+ wins the rook) 5 Qxe5+ Kf7 6 Bc4+ and mayhem soon results.

Also, you are moving your queen far too much. Early on a queen by itself generally can accomplish very little.

What the heck do you want to say? Ne6 is not possible. Not for white and not for black.

After 2...f6? We can stop analyzing. Black should just not play this move. Instead black should develop one of his knights – 2...Nc6! or 2...Nf6!
The problem with 2...f6 is, it weakens two diagonals *. One is h5-e8 - see @MrPushwood s answer. The other is a2-g8 controlled by the Bc4. This is probably the reason why the book recommends 4...d6 - Black wants to develop his Bc8 to e6 and exchange the bishop c4. But white is also much better after this move.

* And it does not develop a piece, and it takes away the square f6 from the knight, and it does not control the center squares e4 and d4. Its only purpose is - seemingly - to protect the pawn e5, but as Pushwood showed, it does not even do that.
I just looked at the Lichess gameBase and it appears white always wins ...
