The whole trouble is ...O-O-O. Black spends moves ...Bg4, ...Qd7, ...Bxf3, ...O-O-O and will have to play ...Kb8 for security. Just ...O-O is a much faster development.

IMO, the problem is that the the only piece you developed beyond the third rank, you immediately traded off.
White has more space, the bishop pair, center control, and easy attacking plan on the queenside while you are blocking your hypothetical attack on the kingside with your g7 bishop and your pieces are not very good defending your king
