Personally I think that most people who play Petroff such as me should go d6 instead of nxe4, which although isn’t losing, it isn’t extremely plesant for black
@hangrad - Sorry for disappointing you, but you didn't invent it.
I'm not a historian but everyone who studies chess knows that.
You will find several videos about this on youtube and on chess sites like chess.com for example.

This variation (3. Nxe5 Nxe4 4. Qe2 Qe7) is playable with Black, it's not that easy to win with White.
you are supposed to play 3...d6 4.Nf3 Ne4.....
@domatas did you read the thread?
@soni777new yes it says it is a complete refutation of petrof defence,it isnt.
@hangrad "Carlsen should have tried this against Caruana's Petroff!"
What?! Carlsen did play 3. Nxe5 in all the Petrov games, what more can he do?
Keep playing 1. e4 until Caruana is bored and starts deviating? *lol*

@Dr_King_Schultz #17 Look at this!

Carlsen playing a patzer opening! That's my favorite opening to face and also the easiest opening to face as black.

I believe he lost this gam simply because he played the worst opening available. I know that some grandmasters, including Nakamura, have played white side of this opening and all of them lost.

Why would the world champion, who actually hates to lose chess games, play such a horrible and amateurish opening?

@soni777new This is a great counter attack. Hugs.
@hangrad because he underestimmated his opponent and thought he woud win anyways.he was actually winning at some point.
