I think that happens to everyone. I know I often try to capture a piece from the first rank to the eight, but instead I land my queen or rook on the seventh rank right in front of the opponent's piece. It's sucks, but in the grand scheme of things I just think it is kind of hilarious. After you play a couple of thousand games you stop caring about it when it happens. It's just part of the game.
