you can find puzzles that are tagged with these check mate patterns at https://chesstempo.com/tactical-motifs

scroll down for diagrams with examples. The page also includes non-check-mate patterns (= winning material tactics).

I copied and pasted these chess motives in above list.
But some are missing, for instance i know the so called "chimney check mate".

I guess these tags are only the most common patterns, there are many more (unnamed) patterns.

I think tagging puzzles is useful to make you more aware of the pattern, thus helping you to learn them (retain them in brain) better.

Thanx, for the list and link. I have seen this previously too and could have mentioned it in the blog post too :-(

What a funny AI picture - the "thing" hanging from the left horse reminds me to a cartoon part of the movie "Pink Floyd" ;)

Thanks for the work you put into this and into lichess! Hopefully more specific mating patterns can be added to the puzzle themes section like this in the future. That would definitely be much appreciated!

@dirkster99
Are you aware that the set also includes puzzles which in the game ended as "Kill Box" mate but are not forced "Kill Box" mates?

e.g. https://lichess.org/training/rHeOc
is only a "Kill Box" mate if Black plays along, but Black could also play 22. .. Qxe8 instead.
White would of course still win with 23. Qg7#

Just wondering if you aimed for a set of pure puzzles or if such puzzles are ok for you too
