About me

Hi there! 👋🏼

I am Fabián Vivas, an International Master from Venezuela currently based in Peru. As a player, I have achieved a peak rating of 2408 FIDE, and I’m among the top players of my country.

I have been part of the Venezuelan Olympiad team (2018) and have played in many international events with strong results.

Over the last years, I’ve combined active tournament play with full‑time online coaching. I offer lessons in Spanish, English and Portuguese.

If you're interested in taking lessons, contact me here: imfabianvivas.super.site/contact

Playing experience

I have been playing chess competitively since 2007, here are some of my best achievements.

- Peak FIDE rating of 2408.

- 4 IM norms achieved in closed and open events in Colombia, Bolivia, and Peru.

- Member of the Venezuelan Olympic team (after winning the qualifying tournament in Venezuela) at the Batumi, Georgia Chess Olympiad in 2018 and Online Olympiad in 2021.

- Medals and top finishes in Pan-American and Central-American youth events.

- Winner of numerous open and closed tournaments in Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, and Brazil in recent years.

Teaching experience

I have been coaching chess online for over 8 years, working with students ranging from complete beginners to players rated 2100+. My students include children, teenagers, and adults from more than 12 countries. Some of them have achieved podium finishes in South American, Central American, and Pan-American events.

My coaching approach is based on personalized and structured improvement. I focus on identifying the root causes behind a student’s mistakes, because I believe long-term progress comes from improving the thinking process itself, not just fixing individual moves.

True improvement requires dedication and reflection. Students must develop the awareness to recognize the patterns behind their mistakes, understand why they occur, and put in the focused work needed to gradually eliminate them. When the thought process improves, results follow naturally.

Other experiences

🎙️🎬 I am also on Twitch (in Spanish), so follow me there if you want to have fun while learning chess.

Besides chess, I like to learn about other topics of my interest, particularly science, languages, personal development and, more recently, programming.

Best skills

🔀Dynamic and Interactive Classes:  I strive to make our classes engaging and interactive.

🌟Simplified Concepts: Chess concepts can be intimidating, sometimes, however, I break them down using everyday analogies and key bullet points that will help you remember these concepts in the long term.

🔁 Practice all topics: I believe that every topic you learn in chess, whether is a strategic concept, tactical theme, opening line, endgame technique..., should be practiced with puzzles and games that challenge your understanding and test your ability to apply them in real game situations.

📊 Realistic Evaluation:  You’ll get an honest assessment of your game—both your strengths and areas for improvement. Let’s work on those weak spots together!

🏠 Homework and Materials: After each class, I will give you some homework and guidelines tailored to your needs. Plus, I’ll provide relevant materials like PDF and PGN files when required.

🗒️ Review lessons quickly and effectively: After each class, you will get access to a page with the analysis we did, the main take-aways from the lesson and the topics we covered. This allows you to review our lessons any time and keep all the material we use organized and easy to access
