About me
My name is Martin Solčan, and I am the Slovak national amateur champion for the year 2024. I'm 23 years old and work full-time as a sports journalist. Chess is my biggest love, so I decided to spread my love also for all of my students. My FIDE rating is 2205, but I am working on myself, so getting to 2300 and gaining the FIDE master title is only a matter of time. Besides working on myself, I really enjoy being a coach, and I would love to help potential strong players achieve their chess goals.

Teaching experience
For a year, I was a mathematics teacher in elementary school. Since 2019, I have been a coach in elementary school chess club.

Teaching methodology
HOW DO I TRAIN?
I have an individual approach to each student based on their character, playing performance, and weaknesses or strengths.
OPENINGS
I build a repertoire of openings with each student so that they can react to any main or side line. We select openings based on their playing style and the types of positions they feel comfortable in.
MIDDLE GAME
I consider the most effective method to be the analysis of games, whether my students' games or grandmaster games. During these, we explain how they should think in a given position, and I try to guide my client to the correct continuations in individual positions with appropriate questions.
ENDGAMES
I show him the most basic types of endings and in which situations to avoid each type and when to go for a given endgame.
WHY AM I RIGHT CHOICE TO BE THE COACH?
I am a strong player with a FIDE title, and I firmly believe that I will soon become a FIDE master. I can push any chess player to a higher level, and with my extensive experience as a player, I can give my students useful advice on what to avoid or what to do.
