About me
Hi everyone, my name is José Renato Ruiz Maranhão. I'm 27 years old and I'm a National Master from Piracicaba, São Paulo - Brazil. Chess taught me many things in life. I graduated with degrees in physical education and music. Aside from chess, I’m a pianist by profession.
Playing experience
I started playing chess when I was very young. By the age of 7, chess became my passion. Later on at the age of 15, I got to know the chess club in my city and started playing in tournaments, and soon I became one of the strongest players in my city. At 17 years old I won my biggest title - Brazilian Vice Champion under 20 category! This title gave me great opportunities to play in more tournaments and take classes with Grand Masters. In 2014, I took a break from competitive chess. But I have started to compete in tournaments again in early 2019, and now I’m more excited than ever!
Teaching experience
I have taught in schools of different grades, so my experience lets me teach students of all ages. I also gave private lessons to a number of people in my hometown as well as taught students at my city chess club. I really love to teach and take joy in seeing the great results of my students!
Best skills
I believe that my strongest points are having original ideas and a philosophical mindset about the game which leads the student to have a better understanding about chess in general.
Teaching methodology
I have always been very curious about a lot of chess books and methods. I prefer not to follow a particular teaching standard, but rather adapt to the individual needs of each student, trying to be as didactic as possible.
