About me

Hello! I am CM Mushfig Asgarov from Baku, Azerbaijan, founder and head coach of Chess Stars Academy.

I am a competitive chess player, coach and tournament organizer with two International Master norms. Alongside my coaching work, I continue to develop as a player and my competitive goal is to complete the requirements for the International Master title.

Through Chess Stars Academy, I work with children, adult improvers, club players and competitive tournament players in individual lessons, mini-groups and structured training groups.

My main goal as a coach is not simply to give students more chess information. I want them to develop a stronger thinking process: understanding positions, identifying plans, calculating accurately, making practical decisions and learning independently.

Playing experience

• FIDE Candidate Master (CM)
• Two International Master norms
• IM norm — Azerbaijan, 2010
• IM norm — Bulgaria, 2014
• FIDE rating above 2200 for extended periods
• Experience in national and international tournaments
• Active online player and tournament organizer

My experience as a competitive player allows me to understand not only the theoretical side of chess, but also the practical challenges players face during tournaments: calculation under time pressure, decision-making, preparation, psychology and converting advantages.

Teaching experience

I am the Founder and Head Coach of Chess Stars Academy, where I organize structured chess training for students of different ages and playing levels.

My coaching work includes:

• Individual 1:1 training
• Mini-group and group lessons
• Training for children and adult players
• Game analysis
• Opening preparation
• Middlegame and strategic training
• Calculation and tactical training
• Endgame training
• Online practice tournaments
• Monthly Grand Prix competitions
• Individual training plans and homework

I believe that students improve faster when lessons, independent work and practical tournament experience are connected within one structured system.

Best skills

• Identifying weaknesses through game analysis
• Positional understanding and strategic planning
• Calculation and tactical vision
• Piece coordination and development
• Opening repertoire construction
• Practical endgame training
• Tournament preparation
• Time management and decision-making
• Chess psychology and handling pressure
• Creating structured improvement plans

Teaching methodology

My training begins with understanding the student.

I analyze the student's games to identify recurring strengths, weaknesses and decision-making patterns. From there, we build a training plan based on the areas that can produce the greatest improvement.

A typical training program may include:

• Analysis of the student's own games
• Classical master games and model positions
• Calculation exercises
• Tactical pattern training
• Strategic and positional themes
• Opening repertoire development
• Essential endgames
• Practical decision-making exercises
• Tournament preparation and psychology
• Homework and independent study

I place special importance on understanding rather than memorization.

Instead of simply telling a student which move an engine prefers, I want the student to understand:

Why does the move work?
What is the plan?
Which features of the position matter?
What alternatives should be calculated?

As the student develops, the training program is continuously adjusted according to tournament results, analyzed games and new weaknesses or strengths.

My goal is to help each student gradually become a more independent, confident and complete chess player.
