The Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge is an 8-player Chess960 tournament, held from the 9th to the 16th of February in Wangels, Germany.

The event consists of two stages and standings in the first stage determine the pairings of the second stage (players ranked 1st vs. 8th, 2nd vs. 7th and so on).

First stage is a round-robin tournament. Time control is 25 minutes for the entire game with a 10-second increment from move 1.

Second stage is a knockout tournament, but all places are played out. Each round consists of two games. Time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 41.

In the event of a tie, two 15+10 rapid games are played. If there is another tie, two 5+2 blitz games are played. Finally, a Bidding Armageddon game decides the outcome of the round, with White having 5 minutes and Black having the lower time bid.

Starting positions are new each round and drawn 10 minutes before the games begin.
