  1. AverageLondonEnjoyer (5) oh god damn it not this again lmao
  2. AverageLondonEnjoyer I mean uh I love facing this line future opponents don't try it
  3. AverageLondonEnjoyer I've probably faced this line like 2 times OTB across 1000+ games but one of the worst things about this league is people prep :(
  4. VanRoy (9) about to be out of prep soon. I was expecting 5. ...g6 or h6. I looked at the 7. ... Bg7 yesterday but didn't go deep into the line.
  5. VanRoy My book recommends 13. Nd2. but i preferer exchanging the rooks instead
  6. VanRoy this is as far as my prep went in this line
  7. AverageLondonEnjoyer why do I feel like my opponent might still be in prep? lol
  8. AverageLondonEnjoyer I really want Nf4 here, but I have to be careful
  9. AverageLondonEnjoyer (15) there's too much for me to calculate with either Nf4 or c6 tbh
  10. VanRoy 17. I missed that Nh3 is possible now that my bishop on e3 is gone. not seeing a good way to stop it
  11. AverageLondonEnjoyer (18) thinking Nh3 Ng1 Bxe2 Nxh3 Bg4 Ng1 Bf8 (with Be7 and h6) looks good
  12. AverageLondonEnjoyer pretty sure the direct Bxf3 Nh3 has no hope
  13. GiveMeKite go ale!
  14. AverageLondonEnjoyer ah didn't think of that
  15. AverageLondonEnjoyer very strange position tbh
  16. AverageLondonEnjoyer I think if I have the bishop pair I'm reasonably happy
  17. AverageLondonEnjoyer otherwise white is mostly in zugzwang with their minor pieces (not actual zugzwang of course, b4-a5 or whatever else exists)
  18. AverageLondonEnjoyer I think I want my king on d8? but that just forces the minor piece exchange so I'm torn
  19. AverageLondonEnjoyer it's probably way more prudent to put it on d6 but then my dsb isn't going anywhere
  20. AverageLondonEnjoyer unless I'm missing something I would expect Bxh3 sooner or later, though
  21. AverageLondonEnjoyer (20) yeah I think white had no realistic choice
  22. AverageLondonEnjoyer think my plan is probably the same. K to d6, B to e7
  23. AverageLondonEnjoyer although Ke8 is interesting here
  24. AverageLondonEnjoyer meh maybe not
  25. AverageLondonEnjoyer probably not ideal that I woke up about 30 minutes before this game started
  26. AverageLondonEnjoyer I think I should drink something probably
  27. AverageLondonEnjoyer (23) king to c5?
  28. jwwells42 black has bishops and a king both of which white lacks atm. and more pawn islands for white. not easy
  29. AverageLondonEnjoyer (26) I'm thinking Kc5 first and then Bf8-e7 and f6 to create an outside passer to distract white away from the q-side
  30. AverageLondonEnjoyer I really want to win this so people will stop playing this line against me :(
  31. AverageLondonEnjoyer the only wrinkle here is that the knight is free to do whatever knightly things it wants. maybe it could cause some havoc but I feel safe
  32. AverageLondonEnjoyer the big issue was always e5, the knight isn't exactly on a good square here
  33. AverageLondonEnjoyer can't attack e5, can't defend h4
  34. VanRoy 28. this doesn't look good for me, most i can get is a draw if i can hold his kingside pawns
  35. AverageLondonEnjoyer last time someone played this opening against me I blundered a won endgame. Hopefully I can avoid that this time
  36. AverageLondonEnjoyer maybe just h4 if Nd2 here
  37. AverageLondonEnjoyer was everything through the queen exchange prep?
  38. AverageLondonEnjoyer I was playing off half-remembered teachings from like 5 years ago with Nb6 and Bg4 so I'm glad that was correct, anyway
  39. AverageLondonEnjoyer interesting from the engine that 25. Nd1 would hold. those two knights just defend everything
  40. AverageLondonEnjoyer didn't see that at all, assumed I was probably winning past a certain point
