One study i made, where the white player got 5 pawns on the same file.
While the eval remains fairly even in game what could have been played between 2 humans.Hello all :).
This time i like to write a small article about a study i have made where the white player got 5 pawn on the same file while the evaluation of the game remains in draw marge.
So thats a challenge, if the goal was only to get 5 pawns on the same file and if piece blunders don't matters its not a challenge to make such game.
Here you can see one example of that.->
But i wanna reach this very unusual pawnstructure while not hanging alot of pieces.
The first question everyone would have how is probably realistic is it even to have 5 pawns on the same file in a game between 2 humans when they don't play a preranged game ?
The changes for it are very very very very little but still possible but i made a game which could have been played by 2 humans.
Based on a Blitz game i saw from GM @Doubleexpresso See that game here -> GM DoubleExpresso vs unnombredeusuario: King's Indian Attack • lichess.org Maybe there was room for improvement for both players in this particular game but this game did give me some ideas how to set up a position where white get alot of pawns on the e file though and the complications are starting after 15..f6 there 16.f3 is a sensible reply.
GM @Doubleexpresso is a player who plays with a no nonsense approach both in over the board chess but also in online chess when he plays blitz or 2+1 which is basicly still blitz.
Notice that not everyone play no nonsense chess in online chess since online chess simply matters a lot less compare to playing a classical otb game with a lot of time for both players which requires a different approach as when playing a online game with a quick timecontrol with no big stakes to earn.
Enough players take online chess less (or alot less) serious.
But anyway exactly due this i was surprised to see a game by him where he had 4 pawns on the same file and at first i wanna make a similar but more correct version of the game in a study as the game he played there but later i had the feeling i could even get 5 pawns on the same file for white there with still human moves.
So i like to thank both @Doubleexpresso and his opponent @unnombredeusuario for this first game which i shared in my article since i struggled to completely "normal" game where one side got 5 pawns on the same file and their game bring me on ideas.
In This study -> Most "normal" game with quintupled structucture,i made so far based on a blitz game i saw,27-12 2024 • lichess.org
In chapter 2 in this study i try to improve the game of Double expresso against his opponent.
The only thing what i doubt was after black last move in chapter 2 (so 13...Rd8) see the diagram here below.
So i doubt if i make a game with 14Rfd1 or 14Ne2 but after the classical move 14Rfd1 14..Ne4 15Nxe4 lead to a big advantage for white while the white player don't need to try hard for that all he need to do is one move and that is 15.Nxe4 and it should be clear that black get a vulnerable pawn on e4 and white can play the move c4-c5 where white got an outpost for the knight on d6.
I like to make a gamelink of studies i made so i played those moves from my studies against my own accounts (always unrated ofcourse).
If you also prefer a gamelink i got one gamelink which starts with 14.Rfd1 Ne4 15.Ne2 (15.Nxe4 is better though but than you don't get the goal of the study :( ).
And i got a game link with 14Ne2 instead but than 14..Ne4 also looks more artificial that way.
14Rfd1 Ne4 might not be optimal plan but it looks human atleast though.
Here a gamelink with 14.Rfd1 Ne4 15.Ne2 ?! IM wateenellende vs lodewijkfrederik: Slav Defense: Modern Line • lichess.org
Here a gamelink with 14.Ne2 which is a bit artificial in my opinion the move 14.Tfd1 looks like the classical move there.
But the evaluation don't change though since its a closed position white can effort to do something random and it still don't really matter if that happens for one move.
IM wateenellende vs lodewijkfrederik: Slav Defense: Modern Line • lichess.org
Before i saw the game before @doubleexpresso against @unnombredeusuario
this game was my best attempt with 5 pawns on the same file -> ? vs ?: Ruy Lopez: Berlin Defense • lichess.org you can see that black got 5 pawns on the same file and both players got a 0/0/0 evaluation !
and it was also a quick draw, it was only a pity that several moves in that game where artificial but its not strange afterall though if you go for such unusual pawnstructure that some of the moves have to be artificial.
But i think my best study with 5 pawns on the same file for one side is the game study i made based on the game from @doubleexpresso against @unnombredeusuario because both white and black played pretty much all moves in a normal way only 14.Ne2 is a bit artificial but 14.Rfd1 Ne4 gives white a big advantage though without that he have to try hard to get advantage the only thing he need to do to have advantage is 15Nxe4.
For the rest all the other moves are more normal in the 5 pawns on the same file study.
In the anti berlin line several moves where artificial Re3 for example and Qd4 Qa4 a bit random but the eval didn't chance so much because it was a closed pawn structure but no way those moves where the best moves in the position.
And in this case i didn't use a perpetual check motive unlike in the anti berlin line with Rxh6+ which makes it my task alot easier to stack pawns 5 pawn from the black colour on the c file.
Thanks for your attention.
