Standard or 960 start position for 1 side vs a random position with a even eval.

3 Examples.

Hello All.

I just feel to write a short article this time about some interesting but also weird start positions ( its white to move in all the 3 examples btw).
Black got the classical start position in the first 2 examples in this blog.
So black just got pawns on a7 till h7 a rook on a8 a knight on b8 a bishop on c8 a queen on d8 a king on e8 and bishop on f8 and a knight on g8 and a rook on h8.
In all the 3 main positions which i share in this article white position is never even close to being a standard start position and esp in the first example in this article.
In example 3 you can see that the white pieces are on the classical squares on the first row but he got no pawns on the second row while black got a fischer random setup with his pieces on the 8 row but black still got all the 8 pawns.

Example 1 :

Black got a normal start position and white got 7 pawns 2 bishops 2 rooks 2 knights 2 queens and one king.
So what is the idea of making such unusual position ?
I just wanna put all the pieces and pawns spread over 32 squares on 4 rows next to each other and i hoped that there would be a playbe position for both sides in this type of position.
So my method for position this way is i first come up with a human idea and than i put many positions in a lichess study and i just let stockfish calculate it.
So Stockfish does the most important work there.

This is the position where 8 pieces are trapped for people who prefer to play a position with one more trapped piece but the theme of the article is that both players got the same ammount of material (notice that xf7 is the best move regardless so for the eval it doesn't really matter if white got a pawn bishop or queen on e6 in this start position).
When i make those from positions i first come up with a idea and than i just put many positions in a lichess study and i let Stockfish do the calculations.
I rather prefer to have a start position like in Chapter 1 in this study if that postion would be equal because its just that all whites pieces are 4 rows advanced from the start position.
But unfortunately black was winning there so i had to change it a little bit.
Idea for a chessvariant : trapped piece chess all white pieces on the 6th row + one extra queen

Not all the starting positions are equal in the study i linked above, the start position in chapter 4 with a queen on e6 is equal.
The start position in chapter 5 is also equal (but that one is ambigious unfortunately) the start position in chapter 6 is also equal.
For the ones who prefer to see 8 trapped pieces instead of 7 and in chapter 6 you see the diagram from the thumbnail.

Example 2 : You can see a normal start position for black vs a random start position for white among the example where white got equal material or less.
In this case white got 0 pawns and black got 8 pawns !

So black is currently up 8 pawns here but white pieces are very active here because his bishops are open his rooks are open the queen is open to join the attack.
So the white pieces are well placed and this is the right moment to sacrifice with 1.Rxf7 ! the position is equal there.

Example 3 : White is the one with a normal position on the first row atleast but he got zero pawns on the second row while black got a randomized start position ala 960 chess but black got atleast still all his pawns on the 7th row.

So i try to put black pieces very clumsly in this example black king is a target to attack.
White got enough compensation here for the 8 pawns he is down because his rook is open already, the rook hit the pawn on a7 and whites bishops and queen and other rook is open.
Blacks start position is so clumsly that his king is in danger on b8 since black can't keep the pawn on a7 on the board.
I didn't put a bishop or knight on c8 in this diagram because black would just be completely winning there.
If black got a knight on c8 he simply defend the pawn on a7 allready and if he got a bishop on c8 he can answer 1.Qa4 with 1..a6 and the a pawn is well defended.
So thats why i put black pieces uber clumsly on the 8th row so that white get alot of material back after 1.Qa4.
You can find a study about both of these example with 8 against 0 pawns in this study below.
2 positions i made with 0 vs 8 pawns, but the side with 0 pawns got enough compensation !

Thanks for your attention.
