Some Instructive Positions from the 44th Chess Olympiad Chennai 2022 | Round 1

ChessPuzzleTacticsStrategyTournament
The 44th Chess Olympiad Chennai 2022 has already started! As usual, such a big events bring a lot of games to learn from. Here, there are some of them that I came up with. Enjoy!

Basic Tactics 01

https://lichess.org/study/DrOE6I7j/mFRHcIsZ#51

This position is quite complex (What else can we expect from Shirov, right?).
Black has two minor pieces for a Rook, but a poor King situation, though. Furthermore, Black lacks development.
And to make things worse, Black went for 26...Qd7. How would you finish the game?

Basic Tactics 02

https://lichess.org/study/DrOE6I7j/xgK4hIPM#34

Is 18.Be5 a move?

The Worst-Placed Piece Principle

https://lichess.org/study/DrOE6I7j/FLrPixWq#60

What is the worst-placed White piece? How would you improve it?

CounterPlay / Fixing Potential Targets

https://lichess.org/study/DrOE6I7j/4FmCCvds#86

White is a pawn down. However, White has the chance to create an active counterplay. Can you see it?

Merciless Punishment

https://lichess.org/study/DrOE6I7j/CNewRJHW#9

Black went for 5...c5? which weakens Black's position a little bit too much. The British GM Jones punished his opponent mercilessly. Can you figure out how?

Domination

Objectively speaking, this position is equal. However, it shows how easy it could be to mess it up when playing against the Bishop's pair.

I hope you enjoyed this post. If so, please don't forget to hit the heart ️ :)
Thanks!
