When was chess created?

The history of chess begins in ancient India, where a game called chaturanga was created in the V-VI centuries AD. The Chaturanga consisted of four types of figures that represented the army: elephants, horses, chariots and infantry. Players moved pieces around the game board, trying to capture the opponent's king. Over time, the game became popular in Persia, where it was changed and received the name Shatrange.
