Chess Rating Quiz

Are you more than your chess rating?

If your chess rating has stalled, it might be time to rethink your habits. A small change can lead to big improvements. Let this quiz guide you toward faster growth.

Hey Lichess folks!

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how my chess rating seems kind of stuck. I started asking myself: How much longer will this go on? What kind of questions should I be asking myself?

I’ve been trying to understand why I play the way I do, and which habits help me improve, and which ones are holding me back. Basically, I started a little self-reflection project to push myself in the right direction with the right questions. And I turned some of those questions into a short quiz.

Here’s the google forms QUIZ: [https://forms.gle/MJ3ATfThtFVbumR3A]

It includes both the quiz and my thoughts.
In case you're curious about the kind of questions I ask:

  • Do I feel the pressure of “I must win this game” when I play lower-rated opponents?
  • Do I instinctively switch to a defensive mindset when facing higher-rated players?
  • Do I mentally or physically prepare myself before playing chess?
  • If a move takes too long to calculate, do I avoid playing it?
  • After a tough loss, do I want to take a short break from chess out of frustration or anger?

I definitely want to expand these questions. My goal is to understand myself better.
Some of the answers made me go, “Yeah, that’s exactly me.” Others had me thinking, “Wow, I didn’t even realize I do that.”
Maybe you’ll also say, “Hey, I have a habit like that too,” and share it with me.
I’m sure there are some great players among you who can contribute meaningful questions as well. Feel free to suggest ones I should add or remove.
I really hope this helps more than just me.I believe we can be good for each other.
