8 tips for Atomar players

Do you wonder how to play the new variant atomar? How is it different from atomic?

1.Gambit your king

Atomar is a variant where you should give your king away whenever you can. You don't have to answer checks, so be free to sacrifice your king. After all, your king is a useless piece.

2.Keep your queen

In atomar, the queen is very important, you definitely can't trade it for 3 pieces or so, even if you win a few pawns. You can always invade with your queen and put it next to your opponent's king.

3.Play the Grob

The best atomar opening is proven to be 1.g4. No one has ever lost by playing 1.g4.

4.Keep your pieces together

Pieces are stronger together, they can defend each other.

5.Don't care about time

Chessvariants.training has very nice user interface, there are absolutely no lags, and you will be notified if you are close to getting flagged. So don't worry about losing on time.

6.Click "Resign"

Unlike other variants website, on chessvariants.training, you must click "Resign" to claim a win. When you feel you're completely winning, you can click "Resign", and your opponent will be given an opportunity to give up. Here "Resign" means "Force opponent to resign".

7.Don't stalemate

When you are completely winning, you must be extremely careful. You can blunder into stalemate very easily. So, remember to double check whether the position is stalemate, especially in KQ vs K endgame, don't go to c7/b6 with your Q if your opponent's king is on a8!

8.Don't "practice" -- Don't play too many games

Practicing is bad for your atomar skills because you might be thinking unsound sacrifices and you would develop some bad habits.

If you follow all the tips, you can surely become a top 50 atomar player!
