Concerning e4, Fischer said it all, best by test. I learned the game of chess as a child, played my friends, family, and I was a particular type of player like Silman described, the Everyman. I was good, but not great, I didn't go to chess clubs, or study lines seriously, I never took the opportunity to delve into the rich culture of chess, and eventually stopped playing for a very long time. Now over the last couple of years I have been focusing my attention, and practising, studying, and learning as much as I can about the game, so that I can become the best chess player that I can.
