How to prevent getting Tilt?...

Off topicChess
Getting Tilt might hurt our focus making us more prone to lose games

I know, we've all been there, playing some games, you think you've already figure the position out and then boom, you missed a tactic or an important move, and now, you're losing, then you think to yourself, alright let's just hop into another game and take from there, but you kept losing, you're starting to get angry, to feel frustrated, you continue to keep playing but you don’t enjoy the game anymore, and now every time you lose it hurts you in an emotional level, when you’re in this mental stage like, the game is not enjoyable anymore

I’ll give you some general tips on how to reduce/prevent getting tilt

  • Take breaks: If you’re an avid chess player, you probably enjoy too much playing online some games, after some time however our focus, stamina and resistance to frustration tends to get weaker and we might get tilt more easily, for this reason, its healthy to choose a schedule to play and use your time, when the time its over, stop playing and go on about your day

  • Know your limits/ rating levels: If you’re playing against someone who’s rated higher than you, you know the odds are against you, and it’s totally normal, it’s expected that you’ll have a negative score against your opponent, accept that this could be a reality and play a good game with good moves

  • Get your head in the game: Focus, Focus, Focus, since chess is a two-player game, you need to play attention not only to what you’re doing but also, you need put attention to every move that your opponent play, even if it’s a natural move such a pawn moves.

  • Mindset: If you’re playing mindlessly, (very common in bullet and blitz), expect to have a lot of blunders, and that’s okay, unless you’re a higher rated player making blunders is very common.

  • Know that anybody can lose games even games that seems totally winnable, don’t focus too much in you loses instead focus on how you’re losing

We would experiment unpleasant emotions from time to time, its normal, however we need to find a way to deal with them, if playing games gets you tilt every time, you might consider revalue your mindset.

Remember Chess is meant to be an enjoyable experience ( unless you're playing professional chess)
