Considering Open-Sourcing Chess Nut: Call for Interest
I’m exploring the idea of making Chess Nut open-source and inviting the community to contribute. Looking for thoughts from the community and to gauge interest.Hello Lichess Community,
I’m the founder of Chess Nut, a platform designed to help chess clubs and tournament organizers manage events, pairings, memberships, and more. Over the past months, Chess Nut has grown and is now used by over 250 clubs across the US. It’s been a rewarding journey, and I’ve always been passionate about creating tools that empower the chess community.
Recently, I’ve been considering taking Chess Nut to the next level by making it an open-source project. My dream is to create a small but vibrant community of developers who are passionate about chess and want to contribute to a tool that can benefit chess clubs worldwide.
If there’s enough interest (at least 5 developers who are willing to contribute), I’ll open-source the Chess Nut codebase (Laravel, Vue.js, TailwindCSS, Postgres, InertiaJS). The product will remain mostly free to use, with a premium tier to cover server costs (DB, SMTP, etc.).
If you are or know developers who are excited about driving this project forward, please reply to this post or reach out to nick@chessnut.club.
I’m happy to answer any questions and discuss how we could collaborate to make Chess Nut an even more powerful tool for the chess community.
If you’re interested in contributing or learning more, please reply here or reach out to me directly.
Let’s see if we can build something great together!
Best regards,
Nick Lampros
