The Lasker Special: My Analysis of a wild attack against Nf3 g3 systems that won Game of The Month in the 4545 league!
Imagine an alternate Universe where the best chess players are around 2000 lichess skill, the World Chess Championship is as exciting as ever, but everyone in the world is simply 1000 elo weaker.
Any opening is playable, the surprise value is still everything, but the options are not limited.
In what is a Rollercoaster of a Match, the aggressive young challenger for the World Title is in a must win situation in game 14, as Black.
White starts with 1.Nf3 d5 2.g3 c5 3.Bg2, and with a move that shocks the chess world,
the challenger plays h5!
The alternate universe commentators cannot believe it, parallel universe Leko screams: "BUT HANG ON", Patzer Universe Danya comments "it was actually played decades ago by Lasker on move 1!", twitch chat suddenly becomes civil due to the shock, Anish Giri posts a recap giving the win to Black before white plays move 4, Chessbase India moves the Livestream to a Stadium.
The Title is on the line, the Unstoppable attack is coming, the Lasker Special is revived!
Ok maybe in our universe it's not a great opening at top level, but us patzers can definitely try it, I even played it OTB twice in classical games (won both!).
