My First Blog. A cunning idea!

Today’s blog is on a position where I anticipated my opponent’s idea and setup a cunning trap. I was playing the Genoa Tournament held in Italy between 13-19 July 2024. The position comes from a game played in round 5 which was a morning round.

In the position above, you can see that white played g3 with the idea to play f4 next. I realized that his queen is running out of squares and decided to trap it with h6!? Although the combination gives white 3 pieces for the queen, the two extra pawns play a key role in my advantage.

Tip: I have noticed that such cunning ideas do pay off in the morning rounds :)
