  1. Mediocratic I had planned 13...Nxd5 but I think after Bxd5 Qxd5 Rxe7 Qc5+ Re3 Nc4 d4 Nxe3 Bxe3 white ends up materially up
  2. Mediocratic here white keeps a pawn but has a terrible structure
  3. gavalanche20 (16.Kh1) This is that wacky Dubov line right
  4. gavalanche20 (16...Re8) I suppose that doesn't really narrow things down these days
  5. Mediocratic hello to my frequent observers
  6. Mediocratic this line looked better in my head but the d5 pawn may be kind of annoying and i might end up having to trade my c-pawn for it, then
  7. Mediocratic i'll be a pawn up but white has some Bg5 ideas that may be challenging to meet
  8. Mediocratic hmmmm. does Qd3 Ng4 work??
  9. Mediocratic Qd3 Ng4 Qxd4 Qh4 Qf4 Nf2+ Kg1 probably not
  10. Mediocratic so Qd3 c5 it is, sigh
  11. Mediocratic maybe Ng4 after dxc6 though?
  12. Mediocratic Bf4 probably works in both lines anyway
  13. Mediocratic oh this is also possible I guess but now I also have b3 available
  14. Mediocratic maybe the idea is Bg5 Ng4 Qh4 now, could be interesting
  15. Mediocratic oh Ng4 hangs f7 with check
  16. Mediocratic Bxf6 Qxf6 is always at least semi okay even with the queen on h4 though
  17. Mediocratic wait maybe it isn't the queen covers e1
  18. gavalanche20 (27...Rxd8) Interesting endgame, White has the worse structure but also has the passer
  19. gavalanche20 (27...Rxd8) The g-pawns and the backward b-pawn probably offset that though
  20. Mediocratic Re1 is useful, keeps me from playing Ne3 after g4
  21. Mediocratic g4 is still too loose though, and will probably lose a pawn
  22. Mediocratic i just hope the pawn doesn't run away after Ne4 -> d6
  23. Mediocratic come to think of it, that's kind of hard to stop now...
  24. Mediocratic maybe I should have played Nd6 instead
  25. Mediocratic maybe Ne4 I can take the one tempo to play Ke7 and get in front of the pawn, the c5 pawn drops but so does d5 I think
  26. Mediocratic there's also Ng5+ Kd7 Nxf7 Rg6 g5, this is looking more and more annoying
  27. Mediocratic Nd4 was extremely careless i think, Nd6 leaves the knight without any good moves
  28. Mediocratic Ne4 Rg6 d6 Ke8 Nf6+ mates also
  29. Mediocratic Kf2 lets me off the hook as far as I can tell, though a5-Na4 might be a good plan at some point
  30. gavalanche20 Wow well done by White
  31. irongalaxy The middlegame and endgame were both very interesting
  32. irongalaxy I thought I might have a slight pull but with time getting low was happy to take the draw
  33. irongalaxy I missed Nh5
  34. irongalaxy That was a nice escape
  35. Mediocratic You had Ne4 earlier
  36. Mediocratic would have put me in trouble
  37. Mediocratic instead of Kf2
  38. irongalaxy I looked at that
  39. irongalaxy Ne4 Ke7 Nxc5 Kd6
  40. irongalaxy Was there a better route?
  41. Mediocratic no but white is definitely better there
  42. Mediocratic I should have played Nd6 instead of Nd4
  43. Mediocratic you pick up the c5 and a6 pawns
  44. Mediocratic for the d5 pawn
  45. Mediocratic and you have connected passers on the queenside
  46. irongalaxy Ah yes it did not compute that I'd get a second pawn
  47. irongalaxy Dang
  48. Mediocratic Ng5 seems to be a big mistake in the opening
  49. Mediocratic Ne5 is the move I expected
  50. Mediocratic It covers g4, I'd have played c5 there
  51. irongalaxy Yeah going for what I did was a mistake if I don't have concrete lines in mind
  52. irongalaxy Vaguely remember 8...d5 being an idea
  53. irongalaxy I thought maybe Nb3 at some point is unpleasant for me
  54. irongalaxy For instance after 23. Bg5 I wonder if it works
  55. Mediocratic I don't really see the point
  56. irongalaxy Just to keep my a2-rook out of the game
  57. irongalaxy Ra3 c4
  58. Mediocratic The rook is worse than the knight at that point of the game
  59. Mediocratic If nothing else were happening then maybe Nb3 can be considered
  60. Mediocratic I should really have taken the bishop instead of the d4 pawn
  61. Mediocratic The d-pawns aren't going anywhere
  62. irongalaxy Yeah probably
  63. irongalaxy Since otherwise Bg5 puts some pressure on
  64. irongalaxy Anyway gg. I will have to look into that Ruy line
  65. Mediocratic Yeah gg
  66. Mediocratic You played well, I thought it was easy to just fall apart after bg4
  67. Mediocratic Good luck in the rest
  68. irongalaxy Thanks, you too!
