  2. jg777 just got back with my kids from their OTB tournament that ran a bit late. My aim is to pile into the center here and see where black play
  3. jg777 looks like the knight wants one of those nice central squares and possibly trade on my LSB. But, I’m going to just allow that for now and

  5. jg777 okay he’s signaling a kingside castle. Good. F4 here prepares to immediate begin some pressure then.
  6. jg777 I’ll be interested in what black plays the next few moves. I think I’ll probably sink some time into the upcoming position.
  7. jg777 okay, I like that g6 was played, that might give some long term weakness if black does castle kingside.
  8. jg777 but he hasn’t yet, so I don’t want to do any pawn structure changes just yet. I’m going to look at this position a bit and evaluate.
  9. jg777 I feel like Qe2 is best, keeps developing, keeps options open and more flexible, and makes black make some decisions here soon.
  10. jg777 but I do need to evaluate possible e5 next from black and what I’d want to do about that.
  11. jg777 oh wow he committed. Interesting, I thought he’d at least delay that 1-2 more moves possible just to keep me guessing a bit longer.
  12. jg777 okay I’ve got to first determine if an immediate f5 is warranted or if a more slow and quiet move, like Ra to somewhere is better.
  13. jg777 or maybe Kh1 because there might be a situation where black gets a Ng4 and I can play Bg1 to keep that bishop on the board.
  14. jg777 like if I play f5 and he goes e5 Nf3 Ng4 ect.
  15. jg777 I do think f5 here at some time soon makes sense for me. I just want to ensure I don’t jump too soon and have all paths lined up well.
  16. jg777 g4 looks ambitious but I think here it commits to much to an attack on blacks king and weakens me to much long term.
  17. jg777 okay now it feels like f5 is the way forward here, as if e5 then his LSB may not be able to comfortably go to b7.
  18. jg777 let’s try and change this pawn structure a bit and maybe open some lines while black still is slightly behind in development.
  19. jg777 e5 and Nc4 are two likely replies, but he has like gxf5 or exf5, but I don’t think those are good myself. At least if I was black.

  21. jg777 Yeah, Ne5 seems better, and gives black much more play. Interesting, if he plays that I’ll have to sink some time into my next move
