Guidelines and Mechanics
Application
- Register by filling out this google form:
a. For Men Category: https://forms.gle/QSs7TzfskTA4mSnr6
b. For Women Category: https://forms.gle/kt5qM2QhxesPiEmG6 - The registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants should register on or before November 20, 2021, 11:59 PM.
- There will be a registration fee that costs Php 50.00 for each participant.
- The registration fee will be paid thru GCASH with the Account Number: 09493489679 (Husky Jane Villaflor).
Contestants - The contest is open to all WIT Civil Engineering students.
- Players:
a. The maximum players for Men Category is 20.
b. The maximum players for Women Category is 10. - Chess varsities are excluded to join the competition.
General Rules - The entire event will be held ONLINE.
- The tournament will be held on November 25-26, 2021.
- The game will be played using LAPTOP only. The players will create account on lichess.org and will be paired based on system rules.
- Tournament Arrangement:
There will be 3 Phases of the Tournament:
Phase 1. All players will play in Arena Tournament.
Arena Tournaments - are fast paced, action filled events where you try to earn as many points as you can in a certain amount of time. There are no rounds in an Arena Tournament. Players are paired nonstop after their games until the timer runs out. The tournament will last up to 1 hour, and each player will have 10 minutes every game. Only top 8 players for men and 4 players for women are qualified for the next phase.
Phase 2. The top players of Arena Tournament will proceed to Playoffs, and will be paired randomly.
• The first round will have a best of three series and would play with 5 minutes each (blitz).
• The semi-finals will have a best of three series and would play with 10 minutes each (rapid). Same rules applied to loser vs. loser for 3rd place.
Phase 3. The winners of semi-finals will proceed to Final Round. There will be a loser vs loser to compete for 3rd place. The final round will have a best of three series and would play with 10 minutes each (rapid). - The Semi-Final and Final Round will be live streamed via Facebook. In the Final Round, players must open their camera during the game.
- All standard rules are applied in the game. These are the highlights:
Qualifications: All players must be able to do the following:
• Properly move all the chess pieces
• Understand pawn promotion
• Understand rules for advanced moves: Castling and en passant capture
• Understand “Check”
• Understand “Checkmate”
• Understand the “touch-move” rule
• Understand 50 moves draw rule. The game can be claimed drawn after 50 moves if there are no pawn moves or no captures.
• Understand 3-fold repetition rule. The game can be claimed drawn if the exact same position is repeated thrice.
• No outside assistance during games is allowed
• Chess engines are strictly prohibited. - In case of any confusion/disputes, talk to the tournament organizers and facilitators.
- Orientation for this event will be held before November 25, 2021.
- The organizers reserve the right to change all rules and guidelines for this event without prior notice.
House Rules - Players are required to compete and conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner.
- Any form of cheating (use of chess engine) of the player/s will result to automatic disqualification.
- The players will provide their own gadgets and internet connection for the event. Technical difficulty, loss of connection or power interruption is not a basis for reconsideration.
- Registration fees are non-refundable.
- Non-compliance to the rules would result in automatic disqualification from the competition.
