Why isn't my streamer page activating?
In order for your Lichess Streamer Page to activate, the following is necessary:
- You must apply for a streamer page here while logged in and have it approved by moderators. You will receive a private message when your page has been approved.
- Your stream appears on YouTube or Twitch, check that you have input the channel name correctly on your streamer page.
- "lichess.org" appears somewhere in your YouTube or Twitch stream title. It must be exactly like that. "Lichess" alone will not work.
- If it's a Twitch stream, you must have the game set to "Chess", this is not necessary for YouTube streams.
- Be online with the streaming account on Lichess. If you are online with a different account, or not online at all, it won't work.
Other issues
- Changing the Twitch or YouTube channel for an already approved streamer page will cause the streamer page to have to be approved again.
- Streamer pages eventually expire if they are not used for a long time, also, you must stream once within a week of your approval or the page de-activates. The streaming trophy will also not appear on your account until you've streamed. If your streamer page has expired you must apply again and wait to be approved. Note that the API calls Lichess makes to Twitch to see if you are streaming are limited. Please only make a streamer page if you plan on streaming.
- There can be a delay before Lichess registers that you're streaming. Please stream for at least 20 mins before reporting a problem.
- Occasionally the Twitch or YouTube API stops working, this is the system Lichess uses to know if you're streaming. If you see no live streams from twitch or YouTube on https://lichess.org/streamer it's possible that this is what has happened.
What happens when a streamer page activates?
It's useful to know what Lichess streamer pages do, so that you can check if it activates or has activated in the past. When Lichess detects that you are streaming the following happens:
- The streamer trophy (a microphone) lights up.
- Your stream appears in the list on lichess.org/streamer.
- A notification is sent to all users who have subscribed to your stream.
- An entry is made to the activity feed of your profile. It will say "hosted a live stream".
