PyChess Shield Tournaments Announcements!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

since August 2021, we do have Shield Tournaments on pychess.org . In this post, i'd like to recap briefly about the Shield Arenas we've had and announce the Shields of two new variants that will be added to regular Shield schedule starting from September 2021. This means we have 4 Variants in the Shield calendar now and new ones will be added in the upcoming months.

----

The very first Shield Arena on PyChess we've had was Crazyhouse960 Shield Arena on 1st August with 130 players and with many top Crazyhouse players in it! It was won by FM @zyxon with an incredible streak and win Rate (96%), while the runner up was only 2 points behind. You can find the tournament link here: www.pychess.org/tournament/J0JLXYFy

Just one week later, on 8th August we've also had Atomic960 Shield Arena with 50 players and some of the top Atomic players joining. It was won by CM @sutcunuri with a convincing performance. You can find the tournament link here: www.pychess.org/tournament/YMNv6bDQ

In the upcoming month, September 2021, we'll have two new variant additions to the Shield Arena Tournaments that will be held regularly monthly: Shinobi and Makruk Shield Arenas!

In just 3 days, on 2nd September 2021, we'll have the first Shinobi Shield Arena.
You can JOIN HERE: www.pychess.org/tournament/vzl4go0R

Shinobi is an asymmetric variant, where one side plays with regular chess pieces against a so-called "Sakura Clan", whose pieces move similar to Shogi and can be dropped to the board. See the full rules here: www.pychess.org/variants/shinobi

It will be followed up by the first Makruk Arena that will take place on 4th September 2021.
You can JOIN HERE: www.pychess.org/tournament/Pgw6etHY

Makruk, or Thai Chess, is a classic board game native to Thailand and is closely descended from Chaturanga, the same ancestor as Chess. While it is relatively slower paced than chess, it is rich in strategical play.

Regular Monthly Schedule of Shield Arenas will be announced later.

Cheers and see you guys in the tournaments!
