The "Monster Declined" as the lichess database calls the position after 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. Bc4 Nxe4 4. Qh5 Nd6 5. Bb3 Be7.

If it's your first OTB tournament, then the only 1. d4 opening you will encounter is the London System, so better focus on that.

For getting used to a physical board: Do what Sarg0n said. For getting used to the time control: Play correspondence and do some puzzles. Take your time there!

I guess wearing them at OTB opens generally attracts more amateurs than elite players to the site. Which in turn results in a deflation of the rating pool. So, yes, it does improve your rating then.
