"Time traps" in classic matches

I'm quite new to lichess, have done some classic games and like to do those "find the best move" scenario problems.

However I joined a game, a classic ranked game set to 3 hours. Against a completely new 1500? player with no matches on his stats.

I thought he only picked that long time to feel safe, not stressed out about the clock and didn't know about correspondence games since it's his first time here.

But I realize now it's a time trap....
He's just waiting for me to quit/resign so he can claim a win.
The game is ongoing atm, another 2 hours or so until his time has run out.
I've reported him. Idk if I can write his name here but, stay away from "epsteindidntkillhim". Maybe it helps if more reports him?

I hope the classic games max time limit could be lowered to something like 1 hour, to avoid time traps. If you want a longer game then why not pick correspondence?
just don't play extremely long chess if you don't want to fall into a "time trap" the reason this website has these time controls is because they are similar to what you'd see in a otb tournament.
I would just play the default 15+15 for classical, as it does not allow much stalling time and gives me plenty of time to think.
He finally left the game :P

But if so long games can be created, it should atleast show a warning text somewhere about potentional time traps.
I personally would just resign that match as its not worth waiting for my opponent.
#5. you can always start a new game while you wait. just keep the currnt one in a differnt tab and if you allow notifs lichess will show you a popup if your opponent moves ( try not to start other long games tho because you may end up waiting on five time stallers (:
