Why are there take backs?

The whole point of chess is that you can't go back. People hang their pieces and proposes take backs. I feel awful for not giving them but its my philosophy. I basically feel like I'm earning enemies for believing chess should be about seeing the threats your opponent procures.
um because we are using computers a mouse could slip, accidently move a piece, things like that.
Ok then, don't give them. Though I don't know where you got it that it's the "whole point of chess". The game is what you want it to be.

FYI, you can turn off takebacks altogether from the Preferences menu. Then people won't be able to ask you for takebacks at all.
I give takebacks only if there is clear misclick.

I've requested several takebacks when was playing on my laptop - touchpad is quite shitty way to play chess.
Only takeback I've requested in recent memory was after I mis-dragged a piece in a correspondence game on my phone.
I got a better solution : I disabled miss clicks and mouse slip
To each their own!

Personally, I disable takebacks in my rated games because I'm tired of losing on time (to faster opponents who sometimes misclick) because I move slowly and deliberately to avoid misclicks.
