What happens to people who are reported for cheating here?

Paranoia isn't healthy. Blunders or lack of them, if you don't cheat, you have nothing to worry about.
Cheaters here are executed with "death by a thousand pawns" I'm sure you know where they are inserted...
They make a new account.

Honestly though. Some people prefer chess websites that are not for free just because it's extremely unlikely that anyone would cheat there.

Most websites have not been updated since like the 90s though, so Lichess being the most modern website is what makes it so popular. It and the fact that everything is for free and the website itself is open source (meaning that other websites could update theirs by copying this website's code I think?).

Chessdotcom has pretty much the same anti-cheating system as Lichess has, I think. Don't quote me on that though. And I heard they are trying to finally make their animation not look like from the 90s anymore but instead make it more modern? Whatever, no website is as convenient as this so I stick to it.

But yeah. The fact that people can just cheat without any danger since making a new free account takes but mere seconds to do - that is not a fun thing to think about.
The code is licensed under AGPL, so you can't just take it, you're bounded by the terms of the license. But you can look at the ideas and write your own code of course.

On a subject of new accounts, we reserve the right to close any new, unauthorized accounts.
