I don’t like playing gambits, but I want to try them. When I tried them before, though, I would always give my opponent the upper hand.

The Queen's Gambit is very solid, but it's not really a Gambit. Try it out, though. I started playing it back when I was an 1100 and went up all the way to 1800.

Kings and queens gambit are very strong .
Try the Evans gambit.
