Pychess uses Lichess code and rules but is not developed nor maintained by Lichess HQ.
It was created by @gbtami if I'm not wrong, anyway he's one of the main devs.

No, they are not "harvesting" your credentials, nor is it malicious in any way (it's a very common practice). It is simply a way to log into PyChess using the same account credentials you'd use for lichess. The authorization process occurs on the lichess servers, whereupon that secure authorization is passed to PyChess to confirm that the user is who they say they are.
