Best move arrow changes depending on how many lines you choose

In analysis board starting position 1 line shows the best move is e4 but if you change it to two lines then Nf3 is the best move and e4 is second best, why does it show different best moves?
Nf3 is not a best move , it's the best alternative move. Both Nf3 and e4 and may it be even d4 , all are the best move but as per engine e4 gives a 0.01 advantage ...
Changing the number of moves shown doesn't change the engine's analysis. It's running, and all the moves get continuously bumped around up and down the ladder. It just happened to change as you went from 1 to 2.

@Olekaze the way the data appears in the window is the way it comes out of the engine itself, in move order. I suspect that Lichess is rounding or truncating so that three moves all appear as +.2, but they aren't all equal. There is a cool video on Reddit that shows the raw output of Stockfish while it's thinking, it's on r/chessbergers subreddit.

He literally just correctly observed that it does change the analysis.

There's a fantastic chess analysis tool, and he's now learned something about how it works. The next productive step would be to apply that knowledge to use the tool better.
It’s like they took the average of d4 and Nf3 and just rounded up...
