Why "good luck" and not "good game" !!! "Gg"

@MandangueNoire
As long as the game is not solved, to win in chess everyone needs luck. Luck = factors we did not predict that worked in our favor. In chess no one can calculate all the lines from the initial position to the end. That means that we only consider a small subset of variations to some limited depth and we hope that the lines we ignored are more beneficial to us while the position we will achieve at the end of our calculation will at least not be losing based on some basic criteria (as who has more material etc) which do not constitute proofs. Therefore, there are too many factors we don't take into account and determine the result. This is called luck.

A good chess player has just developped intuition about which positions in general give them the best chances to win. Similar to backgammon.

If the above were not enough to convince you, just listen to the top chess players. Very often in post game conferences you can hear them say "My opponent played this move which I had totally missed and I was lucky that I had this move that saves the game". Of course they had the necessary skill to find the move but if they were not lucky there would exist no saving move to be found since when they did their previous move they did not consider this variation at all.

Good luck to everyone!
@Loosyr

It is as pathetic as funny, to see you try to justify this replica as pretentious as stupid.

In two lines, I'm going to demolish your miserable reasoning that you spent half a day writing.

If the chess is 10 ^ 123 possible games, it is also valid for the 2 players. So they are tied on this ground too vast for them. It will only exploit a small part of this field, and this part will be at the level of the players.

And that's when I realize that you really do not know anything about it ... You never noticed that? hahaa, poor boy.

GOOD GAMES ALL !! And may the best win ;)
And never forget what your moms have taught you. Be respectful, and you will be respected! ;)
I say all of this in good will. I am sorry for anything which resembles an attack against someone.

@MandangueNoire, you haven't addressed what I said in comment 12. Is there any reason you haven't?

With all of this insulting from someone who wants people to respect others? Isn't this hypocrisy? It doesn't make your argument invalid, although it does

2 of your lines only serve the purpose of insulting Loosy and another is trash-talking, which in total makes up more than half of #23.

What you said to actually address Loosy's argument is unintelligible, so I will have to respond to my understanding of it. If you are using google-translate, at least try and translate it back and see if it makes any sense.

"10^123"? The Shannon number is 10^120 of which 10^4 are considered "Sensible". This only helps Loosy's point.

You will only play one of these games 10^4, but you need to account for what could happen in any given position and if you can't account for everything, then there is an element of luck. Maybe you sacrifice materiel for an attack without you or your opponent calculating if it works. Sometimes there is too much to actually calculate all of it.

Although, I do agree with MandangueNoire on the subject of AdamSandler in OTB(over-the-board) games. That is very poor sportsmanship. Doing things like that and people might avoid you at clubs or block you online.

Let's keep this polite, respectful and civilized like MandangueNoire suggested in #24!
@jBesky
Very nice response! Both in content and spirit! However MandangueNoire's eagerness to insult rather than think, makes me believe that we are wasting our time.
In German, "Viel Glueck" (Much Luck) means "Cheers" / "Best Wishes".

It's context is always good mannered and well intentioned.

The birthday song is sang: "For your birthday, 'viel glueck'."

It simply means "cheers".

-

With that said, if I could hot button the greetings, they would be:

Pre-Game:

"<Handshake>"
"Let's Enjoy!"
"Cheers."

-

Post-Game Loss:

"Good Game"
"Thanks"
"Well Played"

-

Post-Game Win (only upon opponent initiating contact):

"Good Game"
"Thanks"
"Well Played"
