Stockfish 8 can make mistakes?

Dear Lichess Forum Users,

I have been practising my bongcloud opening for a few days, recently against stockfish 8. I just played a game where stockfish made a 'mistake'. I wasn't wait stockfish 8 made mistakes? Is this a result of playing in the the 'bullet' time control?

Best Wishes,
Ted
Stockfish is using opening books i.e. the opening moves are played from a book of moves. These moves aren't always necessarily the best move according to stockfish. That's why when you analyse the game with stockfish, it shows opening moves as mistake.
You didn't knew that? that's not the case, in bullet every engine or whatever makes mistakes, I have actually timeless games , where HE makes a mistakes, lazy to search for them
Dear all,

Thank you for your replies. I was quite surprised to see the error occur so early in the game. Only his second move!

Best,
Ted
just a small correction: this is not stockfish 8 – it is stockfish 16 level 8, or simply stockfish level 8. if you just say stockfish followed by a number, that usually denotes the version of stockfish. but here 8 is the difficulty level and not the version, so not making that clear might lead to confusion.
Dear @glbert,

Thank you for your correction. This is an important observation, and I apologise for including an error in precision in my previous posts.

Yours Truly,
Ted

Thanks! Happy to have joined the Ted talk
I wouldn't be surprised if one day it plays King's move of the Bongcloud... Pawns & Knights are already-passed milestone:
Stockfish works from server analysis, it can sometimes make mistakes
Dear Dmitri,

Thank you for sharing this most amusing game - this is quite a good example!

Best Wishes,
Ted
