Dear Lichess players,
Back in December 2018, the Racing Kings community decided they wanted to follow the footsteps of variants like Atomic and Crazyhouse and create a world cup all of their own. The duo @Grainiac and @FalconPower, after having dominated the variant for many months, decided to take up the gauntlet and start with the organisation of the first ever RKWC. The tournament plan was very well received and 32 players quickly signed up. After a successful start however, several participants forfeited all their games or disappeared without any further explanation. Tournament creator @FalconPower did exactly the latter, and after @Grainiac got banned on his second consecutive account the world cup, already heavily undermoderated, ended up without a leader and without a plan. All attempts to revive it failed and since then the debate on how to continue has never stopped.
In March of this year, @RacingKingsKing and me figured that we knew what went wrong during the 2018 RKWC edition and said to ourselves that we could and had to do better. Due to both of us having exams and the continuing discussions it took another three months before preparations were well and truly finished. Finally the long wait is over. A brand new, revised and polished edition of the Racing Kings World Cup is about to start!

A link to the - still empty - brackets for the double elimination tournament can be found there as well. I aim to grow it to a library containing instructive videos, helpful studies and a collection of the games from the RKWC. The website is still under construction and new sections will be added soon.
Entries are opened until June 23, 10 am UTC. The exact rules can be found on the site mentioned above but entry conditions include:
- 100 rated Racing Kings games on your account
- Having joined and actively checking the forum of this team: lichess.org/team/racing-kings-wc
- Not participating with multiple accounts, or with accounts marked for cheating, boosting or sandbagging
Each round spans over exactly one week in which you will have time to arrange a match time with your opponent. If you finish you match early and upcoming pairings are already known, players are free to schedule their match ahead of the tournament’s time plan. Assuming a field of 32 players would participate, the final(s) would take place by half august.
You can sign up for the RKWC by messaging me or @RacingKingsKing explicating your interest to participate or clearly stating so in a reaction on this thread. The first round pairings will be announced the very same day as the entries close.
