Bobby vs Magnus: Who would win?

It's quite clear: Fisher will win because Carlsen has problems concentrating against opponents with - let's say - idiosyncratic behavior and would rather give up than show them their limits.
As usual when this type of question comes up, the exact conditions of the thought experiment are not spelled out.

So do you teleport Bobby Fischer in his chess prime age directly to the present, sitting him at a table opposite Magnus and let them play? Surely, in this experiment Magnus will win - better prep due to computers AND Magnus knows all the famous games of Fischer, but Fischer has no clue about Magnus' weaknesses and strength.

On the other hand, if you teleport 20-year-old Fischer to the present and give him a year or so to catch up with all the computer magic, and give him the likes of Peter Svidler and Peter Leko as coaches - all bets are off. But beware, Fischer might feel that it's silly to play top-level chess under 21st century conditions and ask to be sent back to 1975.
Fischer used a long time to become the best and stopped playing after dominating for only 3 years. That's all you can say.
Its already proven. The closest you can get to this is by computersimulations of tons of games they have played. And the conclusion - (from 2017) Carlsen had as an statepoint 54% winningchances against Fischer.
To be truthful, Fischer only retired because he saw Karpov and realised he would never be able to win. So instead, he retired and hoped the world would think of him as the greatest.
Fisher!

How time has made so many forget. (And throw out these modern Hyper inflated FIDE ratings .... they are not real!... and that has been proven.... started with Kasparov and FIDE selling the product of Chess... Now it's Redunkulace!!!

Fisher... for those of you who don't know

He took on the Soviet Union (at that time all the strongest players where from the Soviet union. Fisher claimed ... The year leading up to the candidates matches, they played him as a team... In tournaments, playing various openings to see where he was the weakest, they probed his technique, looking for where they thought his technique was less than stellar. He believed they where directed by the Soviet Government.

1971 Candidate matches
Fisher vs Taimanov 6-0 Taimanov get's blasted .. who looses a candidate's match 6-0 and a GM?
next to get thrashed
Fisher vs Larsen again 6-0!!! (these are candidates matches!!! )

next to get blown out
Fisher vs Petrosian The mighty Tigran get blasted 6-2.5 (let us not forget these guys were the top GMs of the day)

Then ... after giving Spassky the first two games in the WC ... one because he didn't show up, the other he played bad... goes on a tear and wins 5 games to Spassky's 1

Does all this with a part-time assistant out of the various hotel rooms he's was staying at during the tournaments.
Everyone else had a team of seconds working on opening prep... not Fisher...

Magnus never dominated his peers like Fisher did!!!!

Nope .... Magnus Carlsen never did anything like that ... he beat Anand who was past his prime to get the world championship (Anand in his prime was 3rd fiddle behind Kasparov and Kramnik.) Then draws in his first defense of his title with Karjakin , (& wins in none classical time controls) Only time he played like a WC was his last title defense against Nepomniachtchi...

Then he abdicated his championship

IF it wasn't for that fact Fisher then went buck nutty and decided to be a hobo and roam the planet (literally!!!!)
There wouldn't be a second thought as to who is the greatest.
@WRPeter I don't think Fischer was particularly scared of Karpov. It is simpler than that. He knew he was losing his mind, and he knew that a crazy man couldn't keep successfully playing world championship matches.
That's like comparing deep blue and stockfish, different eras xxx
