"Waiting guys"

Well, i think everyone has played vs one of them at least once.
That happens when you're playing blitz or bullet, and miss a random checkmate threat (or losing ur position little by little, gonna to get checkmated, cuz in quick controls sometimes it's really easier to get a quick checkmate and start a new one, than to resign).

Then we get a position "mate in 1", when your "waiting opponent" wants to let his time run out till the last second, and finally checkmates you with 00:00:05 ms on the clock. I just wonder, whats the reason of this?
To show to your opponent how much time you have in the winning position? (thats funny especially when this waiting guy lost 5 last games in a row)
Or to make him believe that you dont see this mate, or something went wrong with your connection?

Once i thought that it is the way to rest for some seconds, playing bullet for the long time. But why not to rest before starting the rematch? IMO, just stupid guys that wants to demonstrate their imaginary strength, or like when opponent resigns instead of a checkmate.
Why wouldn't you resign if you hang mate in 1?
sometimes its quite difficult to find a mate in 1 in the position (even for me as for a losing side), but when opponent becomes to 'think' too long, that becomes obvious
@orionchess I know what it is. The thing is that your opponent wants to make an impression that on the last second he checkmated. That makes a big "aaawww" and "woooowww" and " I could never have done that on the last second" and "he is good" blah blah... What my point is, is that it makes an impression if you mate on the last second.

yrs sincerely
