Stockfish Master

In which GUI can I run the Stockfish Master (Lichess engine that lets you play variants)? Scid vs. PC does not support, Xboard does not run right on my computer, Arena also does not support variants. Anyway, where do I start Stockfish Master?

Another thing: why level 8 of the Stockfish Lichess has 2600 rating? Is this due to the depth and timing of his move?

I would not recommend cutechess for playing the multivariant stockfish engine since it does not recognize every available variant (it's ok if you only want to play crazyhouse though but the GUI does not support takebacks!).

The best GUI for playing variants is still xboard/winboard. PyChess is also decent.

@scuffi Yes, the no-takeback is a great feature :)

Multi Variant Stockfish is developed using cutechess-cli, so all Lichess variants are supported in cutechess GUI.

The cutechess new game window shows also variants not played by Multi Variant Stockfish, but in this case the engine is not selectable.

Never used Xboard/Winboard or PyChess, so no opinions on these GUI.

Xboard/Winboard works well with multi-variant Stockfish. Cutechess' support for some variants is rather new, so Xboard was the best choice for me, e.g., when testing losing chess implementation or the like, but now cutechess should also be fine for all variants. PyChess also worked when I tried it, but I do not know whether all of the variants are supported by it.

All I can say is that on my machine, when I choose 3-Check, Horde, King Of The Hill, Losers and Racing Kings, no Engine is found that can play these variants in Cutechess.

Cutechess 1.0.0 on Ubuntu Gnome x86-64 17.04

*edit* I removed the old Stockfish binary, compiled the latest Multivariant SF, re-added it and now every variant is working. So ignore my statement above. Everything's cool!

@ctoks compiled the binaries of cutechess-cli for my fishtest instance (http://35.161.250.236:6543/tests) for testing multi-variant Stockfish, so he actually is the most qualified to state that.

I downloaded the cutechess-master direct from GitHub but, when I compile it on my Linux, I can not continue. Not quite a mistake. At the end of the build it tries to get into the gui and cli directories of the project, but does not continue. I have Qt 5.9 and SVG.

I'm just interested in the GUI. The link would be this: github.com/cutechess/cutechess/tree/gui-1.0.0 ?

@TolphRocky instructions for Ubuntu (use a vm, docker, cloud etc.), cutechess-cli works fine for all distros tested, never tested cutechess GUI for distro different from Ubuntu, though.
