What rating does a player have to have so he can be considered good at chess in your opinion?
I'm just trying to find out what players at different skill levels perceive as a good player..
Cheers guys!
@bigAI you bring up an excllenet point; I consider anyone with a rating higher than my IQ a good player.
@ColostomyBag Well then your IQ must be many standard deviations from the mean! (in the positive direction)
Being "good" is relative I think.
1600/1800 and amateur chess player is a mr
A good player plays pleasant respectable games. Their skill levels are above average.
It's all about perspective...Back when I was really young and competing in my first tournaments, a player over 1000 was amazingly good to me. Once I became 1000 myself, 1500 was the new brilliant chess player status, and when I reached 1500, 1800 was the new genius chess player. Now that I'm OTB 1900, it doesn't seem like a super special achievement considering the best go all the way up to 2800+...
