I am writing from Turkey

@achja Wow, chess season is Summer here. Open tournaments everywhere, most people gain about 200 points in one Summer, I can not participate in many because some real life issues :/

Btw, Netherlands is a quite small country. One may come play chess the opposite side of the country for a few hours of driving (correct me), so it must be good!

edit:
@Sholmes49 No, you can not get it in Turkey.

It is actually the same here. Lots of chess tourneys in the summer.
And also, not all chessclubs have a few months break in the summer. For example : In the city of Utrecht there's a summer chess competition organized by a few chessclubs.
Regarding traveling it is probably maximum 3 to 4 hours traveling inside Holland.
The weekend tourneys can be tiring though.
Years ago I played in some of them. If I remember correctly the usual schedule is : 1 game Friday night. 3 games on Saturday, 2 games on Sunday, and starting earlier on Sunday because of the awards ceremony.
And some tourneys only give you 1 bye to take, so ... it can be hard work !
