Stuck at 1800

Ok guys. I visited the local chessclub. Met some 2000 rated players in 10 round blitz tournament. I did get a draw and a 3 win but mostly losses, 5 loses.

In the losses which were 5 i didnt hang any piece didnt play any bad at all. But it was like they have some mysterious edge on me. All games were intense with good play but it was like they slowly mangeld me down.

Nothing obvious.

Any tips how to improve from here.

I seem to get stuck here although my play has improved.

I strongly feel there is some lack of talent or something. I use my time well and usually win time battles with these guys.

Some have their pet lines. But i cant know it all can i.
What was the time control of this 10 round blitz tournament? I see you play mostly 1+0 bullet here. "didnt hang any piece" and "I use my time well and usually win time battles" may do the trick at 1+0 bullet, but at a slower time control that is not enough. You probably lack in strategy and/or in endgame technique. You can improve by training with the time control you want to get better at.
The time control was 5:03 bronstein. This is new to me but i meant that you have 3 sec to make a move if you make it in that 3 sec the time does not go down. So it was very new and special but you maybe are familiar with it. So 5:03.

It can br strategy. Endgame was ok but mostly i had a hard position reaching endgame with lots of pressure ik positions. Its like you make supergood moves just to make it all the time.

But i cant Apply pressure just get even.

I dont know how i could use strategy...
Blitz chess is very difficult. Experience playing at slower time controls does transfer to faster time controls (so you know what to look out for -- tactics, openings, strategies, endgames, etc.).
If you want to perform better at 5+3 Bronstein i.e. delay, then you should train here playing 5+3 increment. If you play 1+0 bullet you breed bad habits that hurt you in slower time control.

The minor difference between Bronstein or delay and Fischer or increment are that in Fischer/Increment you can gain some time doing fast but unconsequential moves so that you can think longer about endgame decisions.
You can also try playing 25+15 or something here and analyzing your games (actually thinking about the moves, looking at the evaluation graph doesn't count).
Classical time controls emphasize precise play, sound strategy, and deep searches over looking for easy pickings, reckless attacks, and trying to make the opponent flag.

I see you do puzzles, how quickly are you doing them?
I am not a strong player, but I spend minutes on each puzzle exploring multiple lines and trying to patch up every hole.
What openings did you play?

You have to go back and analyze your games. Learn what gambits/traps they might throw at you and how to defend them.

Study the openings, review GM games that play the same opening, and use the opening explorer to see what common moves arise in those opening for each variation.
There was one game as black: 1. D4 nf6 2. Nc3 d5. 3. E4 dxe5 4. F3. Exf3. 5. Nxf3.

Now what the heck is this. This was this guys pet line. Maybe i should have gone for 3.- , Nxe5 instead. I im some hov familiar with this nc3 move and play some grunfeld like setup.

Another game was kings indian as black.

3. Was 1. E4 c5 2. Nf3 e6. I hare this as white this e6 move and i dont have any good answer just some random move as white i sicilian like way open play.

In these three games I got maybe - 0,5 - 1 i this stockfish analys but i think it mins they are sLight better.

So i should look up the best lines and learn from the play. THank for good advice about opening.
Looked up some lines. But no big difference. Must better understand something. Play slower control. /mukabelu
