Is Chess a Sport

Whether i am 100% accurate to biology, the point i am trying to make is still there
@DrBeta I want to talk about the word "sport".
People use language to understand each other, correct? Every word has its meaning which can be different for different people, correct? But because we live in this world we use it. Otherwise we wouldnt talk. :)

The thing is that most of the people will laugh at you with the statement that Chess is a sport. This discussion on lichess I will loose and I am aware of that because people always pray what THEY do and the question had been asked on chess forum :D
But from the most objective point of view I am correct. Every chess player knows how people react when he says to avarage Joe Joanne that I DO SPORT"
Yes yes giggling, you really do sports. :D
Logic learned thru chess is important in developing students’ skill sets. Chess OTB has been cancelled by schools and should not be. Instead use Lichess Swiss Tournaments to organize your school’s chess club/team and bring your electronic devices on your chess day so you can still play face to face with your classmates or other student chess athletes. The school could even give out varsity letters.
Google 'Why is chess a sport' and the result was:

The International Olympic Committee considers chess to be a sport. Chess requires physical exertion as mental exertion manifests itself physically. ... Chess is competitive as the participating players feel the drive to win. Chess requires skill as a deep and serious study is necessary to become good at chess.

@TacticoTime You do have a point, but from the most literal point of view (which i assume @Panchobama was asking about) it is a sport.

@Panchobama I think you should also get answers from people who do not play chess regularly so you will not have a biased school project.
@Panchobama did you try googlign up. This topic comes out every month or so.
so somthing like www.google.com/search?q=site%3Alichess.org%2Fforum+chess+sport&oq=site%3Alichess.org%2Fforum+chess+sport
would have got hundreds of pages ranting without generating new

as rule sport indicates physical skill and excerion of physical effort. None which is present so no. but then again other opinions differ. Like any organized comptetition would be sport.

Here is opinion of compilers of oxford dictionary. I will stick to that
"[uncountable] (British English) (North American English sports [plural]) activity that you do for pleasure and that needs physical effort or skill, usually done in a special area and according to fixed rules"
@Duzzz Olympic committee considers anything as sport as they willing to sponsor hotel visits to venues witl all costs paid. stupidity ans naivity of previsous president of FIDE has very little to do with what is or is not sport
@TacticoTime When I play chess, I am not a sportsman. Even though I play to win, and I get frustrated when I lose, I am not a sportsman. When I play chess, it's just a game.

But when I watch Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura duke it out for 7 days straight - on my TV, (via YouTube, of course) - then I am watching a sport. I feel the same way I feel when watching snooker or tennis, which I can only imagine is similar to how a football fan feels when watching football.

In short: You try telling my wife otherwise!
